Kier Group is the second largest construction contractor in the UK, with revenues exceeding GBP5B. MYR has worked with Kier since 2008. To win this work, we needed to persuade supporting insurance companies of the value we would bring to minimizing professional risk and claims exposures.
At the same time we assured the Kier organisation that management time would be well spent in working with us on reviewing the business, its key construction risks and its control model.
Our work with Kier is focused on professional services risk, in particular relating to design management. There are considerable professional liability exposures in design errors in major infrastructure and building construction.
Over the past ten years, Kier has rapidly grown by acquisition, and we have been required to work with a constantly changing business structure to assimilate different cultures, attitudes to working and control environments into the Kier Way.
During this time we developed:
- Activity maps
- Control hierarchies
- Corporate Standards
- Expansion of risk and control programs to all business centres
The new standards we have developed are now a business leading model for Kier. We have overseen the development of an entirely new centralised and lean control framework for design management and internally delivered design.
